What Is Domain Availability Search?

A domain availability search tells you whether a name is already registered or still free to take. Type a name here without any extension and all 26 top level domains are checked at the same time, so you see the whole picture in one pass instead of testing one extension after another.

Available names show a Register Now link. Taken names show what the registry publishes about them:

  • Reg is the date the domain was first registered.
  • Exp is the date the current registration runs out.
  • Age is how long the domain has existed, in years and months.
  • Expires In is the number of days left before expiry, highlighted when it falls to 30 days or fewer.
  • The + button opens a second line with the Registrar holding the domain and its current Status codes, such as client transfer prohibited.

Why To Use Domain Availability Search?

A name is rarely worth taking on one extension alone. Knowing that the .com is gone but the .io and .dev are free changes which name you pick, and checking that one extension at a time on registrar websites is slow and pushes upsells at you along the way.

The expiry and status fields matter for names that are already taken. A domain expiring in a few weeks, or one carrying a pending delete status, may become available soon, which a simple taken or free answer would never tell you.

How To Use Domain Availability Search?

Type the name you want in the search box, without any extension. Use letters, numbers and hyphens only, so enter yourname rather than yourname.com. Press Search or hit Enter.

Results fill in as each extension comes back. Anything marked Available is free to register, and the Register Now link takes you straight to it. Anything marked Taken is already owned, and its dates appear alongside so you can judge whether it is worth watching. Open the + next to a taken name for the registrar holding it and its current status.

Every answer is pulled live from the official registry for that extension, so results reflect the current state of the name rather than a stored list.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Check If A Domain Name Is Available?

Enter the name on its own, with no extension, and press Search. Every one of the 26 extensions is checked at the same time, so you get one list showing which are free and which are already owned. There is no account or sign up, and no limit on how many names you can check.

Which Domain Extension Should I Choose?

A .com is still the one most people type from memory, so it is worth taking if it is free. When it is gone, the sensible alternatives depend on what you are building: .io and .dev read naturally for software, .store and .shop for retail, and a country extension such as .in, .uk or .ca signals where you operate. Checking all 26 at once is the quickest way to see which of these are actually open for your name.

What Does It Mean If A Domain Is Taken But Expiring Soon?

Every registration has an end date, shown here as Exp, with the days remaining shown as Expires In. A domain close to that date is not automatically yours to take. Most owners renew, and those who do not still get a grace period and then a redemption period before the name is released. A short Expires In means a name is worth watching, not that it is about to become free.

What Do Domain Status Codes Mean?

Open the + next to a taken name to see its status. Codes beginning with client were set by the owner's registrar, and codes beginning with server were set by the registry itself. Most names show something like client transfer prohibited, which simply blocks an unauthorised transfer and is a normal protective setting. A status of ok means no restrictions are in place. Pending delete is the one worth noticing, as it means the name is on its way back to being available.

Can I Register A Domain On This Site?

No. This is a search tool, not a registrar, so nothing here registers, renews, or transfers a name. When a name comes back available, the Register Now link sends you to a registrar where you can complete the registration. Availability can change between checking and buying, so register promptly if a name matters to you.
